LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. It produces therapeutic wavelengths of light. Our skin has the ability to absorb light and convert it into energy. It was originally developed to assist with healing wounds and post surgery scarring. When the LED light hits the skin, the cells in the skins dermis will convert the light into ATP (adenosine triphosphate). This is the fuel that the cell needs to do its job. The fibroblast cells in the dermis layer have the job of producing collagen and elastin therefore LED gives the cells the energy they need to start producing collagen and elastin.
Blue light also kills the acne-causing bacteria known as Propionibacterium acnes, (P. acnes), which can cause inflammation. Using the blue light eliminates the bacteria found in the oil glands in the skin.
LED Light Therapy uses non-thermal light that infiltrates deep into the skin. Each light has a completely different effect on our skin
